London Collections: Men- Part One

On January 9, 2015, London Collections: Men kicked off.  Over the next five days, we got to see the best of menswear for the Autumn/Winter 2015 season. These collections will start arriving in the stores mid-late August and hit the sales floors around the first week of September. Menswear is becoming a force to be reckoned with. There are chances being taken and some hints of nostalgic inspirations, but also amazing tailoring and color palettes in every collection. Some neutral and some wild, but there is something here for everyone. Hope you enjoy the post and see some things that you need to have in your closet. Let’s get started.

The first show was Topshop/Topman Design. When I moved here, one of the first places I wanted to go to (besides Buckingham Palace) was Topshop.  They are one of the many places/shops that define the British Look to me. The collection reminded me of the 1970’s when I was a kid and when the Bay City Rollers rocked the tartan!!! Boiler suits, sheepskins and tartans galore with a hint of flare, given that the skinny trouser is all the rage still.  This collection made me crazy and I pretty much want every piece!!!! Here are a few shots from the show:

The next show was Kit Neale.  To me, this show was inspired by the early 80’s Two Tone/Rude Boy styles with the hats and the very sharp, but cropped trousers with a combination of the crazy 90’s patterns and colors thrown in. The lettered pieces reminds me so much of Stephen Sprouse in a way. These also have a little flare and cuffs, which are quite cool to see. Here are a few shots:

Alex Mullins is another designer with an amazing color palette!!!! Very neutral (lots of brown, beige and cream with a pop of blue and bubblegum pink) and flare in the pants. I believe he did everything in corduroy, which is a pretty cool winter fabric, wool and denim. Here are a few shots:

Aquascutum, to me is tailoring personified for the retail market. If you can’t get Saville Row, this comes pretty close. Very sleek and very dressy.  Totally works for the office and the street!!!!! Did I mention that the tailoring is AMAZEBALLS!!!!! Here are a few pics:

This is Christopher Shannon’s Autumn/Winter collection. Totally edgy and surreal menswear. With bits of cubism thrown in to provide a 3D look to the pieces, this was one of the more fun streetwear shows.  I can’t wait to see guys rocking these pieces on the streets!!! Here are a few shots:

Heritage brand, Barbour also showed their new menswear collection. Country clothes with a city feel, as well a a younger touch, these pieces are the kind of staples that you SHOULD have in your closet.  They can travel from the office (when dressed up), to the pub (when dressed down) and out to the countryside. The Golden Globes 2015

Last night was the beginning of the award season with The Golden Globes, and where there is a red carpet, there will be a blog post from me about it. I will be talking about all of the gowns I liked, the ones I’m on the fence about and the ones I didn’t like.  A lot of the gown I have no idea who designed them, but as I do more research about them, I will include them. Let’s get started!!!

The first gown that I am in LOVE with is on Taylor Schilling from “Orange Is The New Black”.  I don’t know who the designer is, but the color is absolutely gorgeous and I love the drama of it!!!! This gown reminds me of a Charles James creation.  So beautiful!!!!

The next gown that I love is on Lupita Nyong’o. Love her spirit and her sense of style. This is another gown that I don’t know the designer of, but the color is absolutely amazing on her and the petals on the bust line give her slim figure a little more definition. Love the drama of this gown as well. I can see this gown fluttering with a slight wind, like a flower in bloom.

This is Jessica Chastain from “A Most Violent Year” serving up Femme Fatale!!!! With her hair to one side and full of bouncy waves, you can totally envision her slowly walking into the room and every eye goes to her. Love the liquid bronze color and the fit shows off her amazing curves.

Another gown I love is on Anna Kendrick from “Into The Woods”. This is another gown that is in a beautiful color, has softness and oodles of drama!!!! This is old Hollywood all the way!!!! I love it when an actress serves this on the red carpet. Breathtaking!!!!!

This is Amy Adams in Versace!!!!! This is another actress that can do no wrong on the red carpet.  She may not always have that “POW” accessory, but she always gets the gown right.  The blue goes with her eyes really well and they make her strawberry blonde hair stand out. Versace knows how to bring out the sexy in a woman and she has it in spades in this gown!!!! LOVE HER!!!!!!

Now, here are some of the looks that I was on the fence about. I may not have liked it for the occasion, or there were fit issues, color issues, etc.  Either way, these came close, but something didn’t work.

First up is Keira Knightley in Chanel. I usually love what she wears and I love her eccentric style, but this time I’m on the fence about this piece.  She looks like she just stepped out of Season Five of Downton Abbey. I totally see this in one of the party scenes. Maybe that’s what she was going for.

Another one I’m on the fence about is Rosamund Pike from “Gone Girl”.  I don’t hate the dress, but this looks like something that the ladies from Jersey Shore (J-Woww anyone???), or Geordie Shore would wear. To me, the dress looks quite cheap and not really glamorous for this event. If Rosamund was a porn actress, I’d get this look.

It was really hard to find a dress that I didn’t like, because they all had something to them that worked for me, but these particular ones, stood out for me, some for the wrong reasons, but mostly for all the right reasons. I know that other fashion bloggers may not agree, but these work for me!!! I’m still investigating to find out who the designers for some of these pieces are and there were many that deserve an honorable mention, because they were amazing, like Kate Hudson, Amy Poehler, Viola Davis, and Laura Prepon (who totally reminded me of a black widow spider).  Let me know what you think!!!

New Dawn, New Day, New Year, New Beginnings

As the New Year begins, like a lot of you, I took the time to reflect on the year we’ve had in fashion as well as in general. Fashion has become more edgy and nostalgic, innovative and sleeker. Life in general also has been quite interesting for me. In late September 2013, I moved from Berlin to London. I took the time to really get to know London and the city became my new home. It even got me to revisit all the reasons why at the age of 14, I had and still have an obsession with this city (all fashion and music related).  I’ve made one of my dreams come true and now my focus is on making my other dream come true, being a designer in London.  I’ve met some great people here, seen some great places (although I need to discover some others), and gaining more insight into the mysteries of London. I’m also becoming more inspired by all that’s around me here.

My main goal this year is to design a bit more, and to get my website up and running.  It’s been a bit of a trying time, settling in and learning how to get on, even adjusting my networking style to fit my new surroundings (still getting used to that). I’m off to a great start, but I still have a ways to go. The road to the top begins with a single step, so I’ll be taking a lot of steps in this process. I’m also learning more about myself in my new surroundings and loving every minute. There will be more to come and I will try to keep on updating you on the process.

At this time, this is the slow period in fashion retail.  This is the period where all the end of the year sales have ended and no one is really shopping at this moment, because everyone is still paying for Christmas and New Year’s. The magazines are starting to preview all of the upcoming spring/summer looks and everyone is preparing for the upcoming Fashion Weeks.  London Fashion Week: Men’s begins in a few days (so does Berlin Fashion Week) and in a few weeks time the juggernaut of New York, London, Paris and Tokyo Fashion Weeks are gonna kick off the spring/summer season.  Retail will pick up then and all of the fashion peacocks will be out in full force (and so will I).

I’ve been taking this time to catch up on some fashion reading, so I will have a lot to put in this post. Most of the pictures I’m sure you would have seen by now, but these are a lot of the pics I like as well as what’s moving me at this time. Let’s get started!!!!!

Catching up on some fashion reading!!!!

Catching up on all of the fashion magazines that I brought, but because of the holidays, I never got to read them all, so I’m doing it all now and letting you see all that I’m seeing and being inspired by!!!! Enjoy the journey with me!!!

As I was going through the December 2014 issue of American Vogue with Amy Adams on the cover, I came across two amazing photos that were simply breathtaking!!!!! Styled by Fashion Editor, Grace Coddington (another autobiography I have to get) and taken by Annie Leibovitz, and co-starring Tim Burton, it is a re-imagining of the Hans Christian Andersen story “The Red Shoes”. Simply gorgeous!!!!!!

I also was going through the December 2014 issue of American GQ with Steve Carell on the cover and loved everything I saw.

The issue was full of all the things that a man should have, staples that outlive the trends and are slightly edgier than the basics. The shots of “Guardians Of The Galaxy” star, Chris Pratt really rocked my world. They totally change my view of him.  I always knew that he was a funny guy, but now after seeing the new look and seeing Hollywood take him seriously, he is a force to be reckoned with. He is in with a group of actors that 2014 was the breakout year for them, that includes Eddie Redmayne (star of “The Theory Of Everything”), Jack O’Connell (star of “Unbroken”), and Miles Teller (star of “Whiplash”).

Throughout most of the issues of the other magazines, everyone is talking about confidence.  Some are faking it, others don’t have any and all are unsure of how to get it.  I can only speak for myself and tell you how I gained my confidence. Sometimes you have to walk alone to do it.  In this context, it may come across as a little arrogant. Forgive me if it comes out that way. It’s not my intention.

When I was growing up in Brooklyn, New York, I always knew that I wasn’t like the other boys in my family, in my neighborhood, or in my school.  I always hung around the girls, was (and still am) totally into fashion, music and art.  All the other boys were into sports, mostly participating, where as I enjoyed as a spectator.  I was also quite shy and was always bullied and picked on.  I’ve been called all sorts of things and beaten up by other boys in the neighborhood as well as in school. I’ve had bottles and rocks thrown at me and each time these things would happen, it would eat away at my self esteem, my confidence until I had very little left. On one particular occasion, I had a really bad day of being bullied and beaten up and my confidence was at an all time low.  I was tired of being picked on and being called names, just for being myself.  After crying my eyes out, I had made a vow to myself to never allow that to happen again, no matter what the cost. It took some time, but I developed ways to function when those situations arise.

I found solace in the things that excited me: music, fashion and art. I even began to focus on being a designer, so I began to fall into the world of Vogue, Elle, GQ and Harper’s Bazaar, as well as the world of Rolling Stone, Smash Hits,Q, NME and Mojo.  I began to read everything I could about fashion and designers. I even had dreams of designing clothes for Elton John and Donna Summer.  I would still be called names and picked on, but little by little I started making my way out of my neighborhood and my high school onto the subways that took me to places where I could find my tribe, more music, more fashion, more art and as I found those things, my confidence began to build.  Once you find your tribe, your support system, you can pretty much do anything.

As I learned more about music and fashion, I was learning more about myself.  Once you know yourself, you skin gets thicker and you work a little harder, so the things that people say about you or to you will never shake who you are. I always tell people that the things that people say have made me tougher. My belief in what I knew of myself and the things I loved were the things that made my confidence grow like flowers in a garden.

Confidence to me is that belief in yourself that no one can take away.  I believe that I am a good person and a great designer, so no matter what anyone else says or thinks, I will always believe that.  I can handle critiques and I know how to take what I can use and discard the rest.  I can’t get you to believe in what I do, if I don’t believe in it myself!!!!

Today, I am living in the place that I’ve been dreaming about since I was 14 (now I’m 44), and very confident and secure in my abilities, although there will always be room to learn more, not just about art, music and fashion, but about myself. People will always prejudge you, when they are afraid of seeing something that they’re not used to.  You just have to get used to that and stand tall, even if it means that you have to stand alone.  Sometimes you have to give people a chance to catch up to you.

One of the many phrases that I have picked up and put into my life and mantra is:

What you think of me is none of my business.

I live by that!!! There are others, but that’s the main one. Own who you are and all that comes with it. Your successes, your failures, your obstacles, your triumphs.  Don’t be concerned about the others, because we are all meeting on the same roads at points.  We all want to be successful in every situation and we all take different roads to get there.  Know who you are and what you bring to the party and do it all with a smile.  You are responsible for your own happiness, so get out there and take it!!!!

Oscar De La Renta: A Fan Tribute

On Monday evening, we’ve lost a legendary and glamorous designer. Oscar De La Renta passes on at the age of 82 after a long battle with cancer. The ultimate gentleman, who as a designer, never follows trends, yet he always knows what women want to wear and how they want to feel when they wear his clothes.

Oscar De La Renta

Every celebrity has worn his gowns, from Sarah Jessica Parker to Jennifer Lawrence and even to his last hurrah, Amal Alamuddin (now, Mrs. George Clooney). Every woman wearing his dresses or gowns will have every eye on them. He was always all about the glamour!!!!!

Oscar De La Renta was born in the Dominican Republic in 1932. At age 18 he moved to Spain to study painting at the Academy of San Fernando in Madrid. It was there, along with other flamenco dancers that the crucial and life changing friendship with the iconic designer, Cristobal Balenciaga for whom he began doing sketches for.

Oscar honed his craft at Lanvin in Paris, before making the move to New York in the early 1960’s to set up his label with the help of another fashion legend, Diana Vreeland, who was the Editor in Chief at Vogue Magazine at that time. From the start, he didn’t follow trends. It was always about serving up the glamour, especially for the Upper East Side/Upper West Side ladies who lunch.

By the 1990’s his label went stratospheric when Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) wore his pieces on her show “Sex And The City”. Oscar was always about the New York Woman, even though he dressed the world.

De La Renta also took on an ousted John Galliano, and help put him back on track. Galliano is now the Creative Director for Maison Martin Margiela.

Oscar was diagnosed with cancer in 2006. It was a shock to those that were closest to him, but he continued to have a hand in his company. he spent a lot of time in his Connecticut home, enjoying his garden, having dinner with friends (The Kissingers, Diane Von Furstenberg).

He leaves behind his amazing wife and his adopted son, Moises as well as scores of fashionistas, models, actresses, and women of the world who were all a part of his amazing artistry.

Oscar, you have and you will always be a MASTER!!!! You are the designer’s designer. You inspire all that manages to get into your orbit, either by the shop floor, your runway shows and even your well dressed celebrities. May you continue to showcase all of your glamour in heaven!!!!

The September Issues- Part Two

After tearing through London Fashion Week and working my part time job at Selfridge’s, I managed to come across the September Issues of American Vogue and American Elle. I finally managed to pick up the American Harper’s Bazaar with Lady Gaga on the cover. Let’s get started.

Flipping through American Vogue always takes me back to New York City in the fall.  I always remember the days when I would go to my favorite magazine shops and see how they cover the windows with all of the September issues.  I would walk in, grab every issue, pay and be ready to be blown away with all of the amazing fashion, editorials, and new campaigns and this time was no exception!!! The cover has all of the hot models of the moment (so glad that they have models on the cover, instead of a reality tv star/pop star/actress) and 856 pages of gorgeous fashion (the largest issue of American Vogue had 910 pages and featured Lady Gaga on the cover which landed them in the Guinness Book Of Records as being the largest issue of a magazine EVER!!).  My favorite editorials are “Belle Fleur” which offers a lot of print and texture, “The Dance Of Seduction” with Chanel Iman (one of my favorite models) and her boyfriend, A$AP Rocky.  Love the movement of the editorial and all of the pieces are AWESOME!!!! I also love, “Dark Horse” with Karlie Kloss (another one of my favorite models) in Peru with Mario Testino. Vogue always goes all out for their editorials, especially for the September issue.

Elle magazine have also gone all out on this issue. Packing their trend pages and serving up some edge, they really know their girl and they cover all of the bases. Kristen Stewart is on the cover and the pictures that accompany the interview are awesome!!!! Taking the idea of the Chanel supermarket, the editorial was done in an actual supermarket!!! It is also great to see Kristen in some bright, fun clothes for a change. She has a great fashion sense, but she always looks unhappy, but this time, she looks pretty, happy and having fun.  There were a couple other editorials that I liked a lot. One is “Paradise Isle” which was done in Scotland (a place I have a HUGE fascination with and I hope to see soon), with tons of exaggerated sweaters and beautiful, romantic scenery.  Another I liked a lot is “Hit Print”, which is all about the hot, bold prints for the season and “Industrial Revolution” with model and newly appointed women’s design director of Shinola, Carolyn Murphy on the streets of Detroit. Awesome shots and totally full of energy for the season!!!!!

Stay fashionable and sexy!!!!!

London Fashion Week- Part One

I’ve just completed the whirlwind five days of London Fashion Week.  I saw some amazing shows and met some amazing people. I even managed to find the September issues of American, Vogue, Elle and Harper’s Bazaar (Part 2 of the September Issues will be coming soon).  I’ll be talking about the show’s at Freemason’s Hall and the shows at Somerset House (that will be Part Two of this blogpost).  Packed full of fun and fashion, let’s get started.

Thursday was the first day of London Fashion Week and unfortunately, I had to work my part time job at Selfridge’s so there were no shows for me on this day, although I did get my picture taken a few times by a few fashion bloggers. If any of you see the pics, send them my way!!!

Friday was my day of and it was a day full of shows. The first show I saw was Jamie Wei Huang. Love the tomboyish feel and the edginess of the pieces. The buckles and saddlebag details were quite fun. I’m looking forward to seeing these on the street.

I missed the Ones To Watch show, which showcases the hot designers to watch this season. They are Cassandra Verity Green, Keiko Nishiyama, Min Wu, and Youjia Jin.  I couldn’t find any pics of their work, but when I do, I will post them.

The next show I checked out was Hema Kaul. Loved her work as well.  Lots of colour, lots of glamour, but this was another show where I couldn’t find great pictures, but I will keep looking.

The last show I saw was Ashley Isham. Now, this man knows how to bring the drama!!!! I always look forward to seeing his shows because I am always blown away by his ideas. This is a collection for the woman who wants to stand out, either on the red carpet or on the tube.  Standout pieces every time!!!!!!

On Sunday, I was only able to make one show and that was the Sorapol show. Their shows always rock my world!!!!! This is a kind of drama that I love at a fashion show. The inspiration was a very French Creole vibe and all of the models were of color and they served up the glamour!!!!!! I did take a video of the show and I managed to find some of the pics, via another blogger (thanks a million, Aura Borealis!!!!! AWESOME PICS!!!! Awesome blog!!!!!).

On Sunday, I was only able to make one show and that was Le Photographe.  Amazing collection!!!!! So pretty, so feminine and fun!!!! I love fashion that is fun!!!! I had a chance to chat with one of the designers and we discussed why most of the collection was on mannequins and some were on models.  He wanted to use a different way of showcasing the clothes, like in a retail setting, where that’s how the everyday person sees them, putting them in an environment where you can see more of the detailing and touch them to understand the textures. I managed to get a few pictures.

The MTV Video Music Awards 2014

This morning I had the pleasure of checking out the red carpet pictures for the MTV Video Music Awards and I must say that I was slightly disappointed.  Musicians usually have a very interesting fashion sense with a little bit of edge and a lot of eclectic, but this year, it was quite tame. Lots of pretty pieces on some pretty people (a good portion of them I have no clue as to who they are), but not much risk taking.  As always, I will talk about the pieces I did like, the pieces I didn’t like and the ones I’m on the fence about. Let’s get started.

The first piece I really liked a lot was Beyonce’. Love the gown and she was totally wearing the proper undergarments underneath. Sexy, but covered up.  I may not always drink the Beyonce Kool Aid like a lot of her fans, but I am all about her in this!!!

The next one I liked a lot is Kelly Rowland. She is absolutely glowing here!!!! Love the gown and love her smile as always!!!! I hope that if this “Spinning Gold” movie takes off (the biopic about Neil Bogart and Casablanca Records, starring Justin Timberlake), she gets cast to play Donna Summer (sending it out to the universe).

Kelly Rowland at the MTV Video Music Awards 2014.

Another look I liked a lot is Solange Knowles, Beyonce’s sister. Love that her style is so edgy!!!! Love the oversized blazer and the cropped pant!!!! This is the first bit of edge that I’ve seen on this red carpet and I would love to just hang with her and talk fashion!!!! Love her music as well!!!!

Another look I liked a lot and it surprised me, but it is quite glamorous for her and she may actually be the one to take some of the shine from her sister. It’s Kendall Jenner. Now that she is a model (see the most recent issue of Love Magazine), she is determined to make it on her own, without prejudging about her Kardashian namesakes. Although I would have loved a jacket on her, I do love this look!!!!

Another look I liked a lot is fashion model, Chanel Iman. I’ve always liked anything she wears. Her off duty looks are pretty tame, but when she’s working or turning up at an event, she always kicks it up a notch and she always looks like she’s having fun, so bravo to knocking it out the park again in this dress.

Chanel Iman at the MTV Video Music Awards 2014.

The last look I like a lot comes from Rita Ora. Love the Hollywood glamour she’s putting forward. She just needed a POW bracelet to complete this femme fatale look!!!! LOVE IT!!!!!!

Now here are the looks that I’m on the fence about. I either felt they were too tame or not right for the event, but they are amazing pieces. The first one is actress Chloe Grace Moretz. Love the top!!! Love the pants!!!! Don’t love them together. I would have opted for a different top with the pants and a POW belt!!!!

Chloe Grace Moretz at the MTV Video Music Awards 2014.

The next one is Mary Lambert. Love the dress and it fits her well, but it needed a heel to work this event. Don’t get me wrong, I have no issue with a flats girl, but then your shoe needs to be the POW accessory. It looks too casual.

Mary Lambert at the MTV Video Music Awards 2014.

The other look that I’m on the fence about is Kim Kardashian. Love the dress, but expected more from her. Serving up messy hair (is that still a trend??) and looking unhappy as all ever. This could be due to the angle or the sun in her eyes or the wind, but there isn’t much happiness here. Kim is usually a hit or miss on the red carpet, and although she’s playing it safe here, I’m missing some of the POW that she usually gives when on the carpet.

Kim Kardashian at the MTV Video Music Awards 2014.

Now here are the looks that I totally didn’t like. Let’s start off with Katy Perry and rapper, (from G’s To Gents contestant) Riff Raff. Now this may have been a joke (taking the piss out of Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears when they did this look), but this much denim on two people is just way too much!!! This may work at the CMA’s but this was not the least bit edgy. I have nothing against a denim gown, but I would have hacked this and made it shorter, letting it fray at the ends. Love Riff Raff’s swagger, though.

Well, these are some of the looks I checked out from the red carpet. I wasn’t as mean as I thought I would be, but I was disappointed at how safe everyone looked.  Check it out and let me know what you think!!!!

Stay fashionable and sexy!!!!!

The September Issues- Part One

I just got through the the September issues of British Vogue, British Elle and British Harper’s Bazaar and let me say that these issues didn’t disappoint. I’m sorry it took a little longer than expected to get this post up, but getting through these issues took a little while and I was also faced with computer problems (Google kept crashing and I would have to re-type everything). I took all the best bits from each issue and put them here. A lot of the pictures I couldn’t find on line, so I took pics with my own camera, so none of these pics are professional pics. Let’s get started.

The first issue I dived into was British Vogue. This issue, as all the others are packed with fashion, fun and style.  Very classic with some edgy moments thrown in.  My favorites were the Naomi Campbell article (LOVE HER!!!!), the Kate Moss styled/Lara Stone starring editorial called “The Wolf In Her”, the editorial called “Abstract Thinking” which is all about color and texture, and the Sixties inspired “Join Our Club” editorial.  Here are some photos:

The next issue I dived into was British Elle.  While British Vogue is more classic, Elle is like her younger, edgy sister offering a different take on some of the more refined pieces and also throwing in a little funkiness into the mix.  This issue had quite a few favorite things in it, like the interview with American model and social media phenomenon, Kate Upton, an interview with one of my favorite designers and Creative Director for Moschino, Jeremy Scott, the “Super Bold” editorial, which is full of color and texture and a really edgy model, and the Sixties inspired editorial “The Beat Goes On”. Here are a few shots from the magazine.

The last issue I checked out is British Harper’s Bazaar. This magazine is like the middle sister between Vogue and Elle.  The right amount of classic with the right amount of edgy. As with the others, it’s packed with fashion, style and tons of info about the Fall/Winter season. My favorites in this issue are: the Rosie Huntington-Whiteley interview about her lingerie range at Marks & Spencer, the Mary Kate and Ashley interview about their label, The Row, the icons editorial by Carine Toitfeld with every amazing model in the world and the “Into The Woods” editorial. Also, there is a Sixties inspired editorial called “Street Smart.” Here are some photos.

Thom Browne- A Fan Tribute

This morning, I woke up with one of my favorite menswear designers on my mind. He is an elusive, American designer that has turned menswear on its head with shrunken silhouettes and shorter hems. His pieces are not for wallflowers. You gotta be ballsy and confident to wear his pieces. Some of his pieces may not translate well to the street, but if you’re a true fashionista, you can make them work. Some of my research is common knowledge of him, while other things I had to research a little more (wikipedia).  Either way, I am a huge fan of this man and his work.  His name is Thom Browne.

Thom Browne, designer

Thom Browne, designer

Thom Browne is an American fashion designer. He is the founder and head of design for Thom Browne, a New York City-based menswear and womenswear brand. Browne debuted his womenswear collection in 2003.Thom Browne’s only store located in Midtown, New York. I love this store!!!!! I try to go in there every time I’m in New York, even though it’s appointment only.

Thom Browne grew up in Allentown, Pennsylvania, where he graduated from William Allen High School He then attended the University of Notre Dame, where he received a degree in economics. He was also a member of the swim team. Following an attempt at acting in Los Angeles, Browne moved to New York City in 1997 for a job as a salesman in Giorgio Armani’s showroom. Browne was picked up by Club Monaco, a brand of the Polo Ralph Lauren Corporation, to lead its creative development team. He worked with the US-American fashion designer Ralph Lauren. Browne spent several years at Club Monaco leading its design department before launching his own label.

On September 8, 2006, Brooks Brothers announced its partnership with Browne as part of a guest designer program to create and distribute a 50-piece men and women’s high-end collection, called Black Fleece by Brooks Brothers. Claudio Del Vecchio, Chairman and CEO of Brooks Brothers, felt that “Thom Browne’s brilliant eye, his ability to foreshadow the market and offer a special look will bring a new dimension to Brooks Brothers.”
