Friday, I had the luxury of attending the graduate fashion show of Middlesex University London. The event was held at the very gorgeous and posh St. Pancras Renaissance Hotel. There was a pre-show cocktail party with really amazing food treats (mushroom filled cheese balls with olive oil were to die for!!!!) and really cool drinks (lots of bubbly champagne and other fruity drinks). I got to mingle with some fashion people, but my mission was to see the clothes.
As we take our seats and the photographers take their places to get their shots, I flip through the program which showcases 22 designers featuring the best in menswear, womenswear, and textile design. This is the greatest, but also the most nerve-racking moment in a designer’s career. This is the first time that they get to showcase all that they have learned and show the world their voice as designers. This is their moment with their first voice and these students, now graduates didn’t disappoint. Some looks I wasn’t sure of how they would translate on the street, but i can totally see all of these pieces in the stores like Selfridge’s, Harrod’s, and Harvey Nichols.
Each designer stood out, providing ready to wear and avant garde pieces and using unconventional materials (one designer used a sparkly theatre curtain for her creations). I managed to make a video of the show, but in uploading the video and the pictures, they were lost ,so this post will have some pics from the program. These were my favorites:
There were lots of amazing pieces in the show and great ideas to take fashion to the next level. I hope to check out more graduate shows in the future and to wish well the designers that have graduated and showcased some amazing pieces. You are now the future of fashion. Let’s take it higher!!!!
Stay fashionable and sexy!!!!!
