The Golden Globe Awards

Last night I watched the Golden Globe Awards Red Carpet and Show.  I was quite surprised at the things I’ve seen.  I saw very rich women with horrible stylists.  I didn’t know what to say.  This is one of the times where I saw more of what I didn’t like and much less of what I did.  Usually in this post, I would give you the few that I loved and didn’t loved and the ones that I’m on the fence about, but this post will be more about what I didn’t like.  Let’s get started.

One look I really loved a lot was Cate Blanchett in Armani Prive.  Cate can never go wrong on a red carpet. If she is wearing an edgy piece, she completely goes there.  Her stylist should get a raise. Even better if she picked it out herself.  Excellent choice, excellent fit, simply amazing!!!!!!

Another look I absolutely LOVED is Sofia Vergara in Zac Posen.  Beautiful, glamorous, and totally edgy (black is never rally associated with ball gowns), especially with turquoise jewelry and her confidence which just takes the look to the top. You go, girl!!!!!

Next up is Lupita Nyong’o in Ralph Lauren.  Here is another one that can do no wrong on the red carpet.  She always knocks it out of the park!!!!! Love the bold, red color on her and I totally love the edginess.  It’s reminiscent of the Tom Ford gown that Gwyneth Paltrow wore a couple of years ago.  This is absolutely stunning!!! It’s a little edgy for Ralph Lauren, but I love it!!!!!

Another one I’m loving in red is Amy Adams in Valentino.  Amazing color on her!! I would have opted for a little jewelry (gold or diamond bracelet), but this is classic and stunning.

This is Amy Poehler in Stella McCartney.  Awesome look on her!!!!! It’s edgy, yet classic and the fit is AWESOME on her!!!! Well done, Amy!!!!!

Here is Jenna Dewan-Tatum in Roberto Cavalli.  LOVE LOVE LOVE this on her!!!!This is the kind of attitude that I love to see in a Robero Cavalli piece!!!!! Bold, confident, and sexy with a touch of glamour. This “Step Up” actress has it in spades!!! Doesn’t hurt that she has a gorgeous accessory called, Channing.

Now, here are the ones that I didn’t like. It might get a little mean here, but just know that I didn’t like the dress and I will give my reasons.  First up is Julia Roberts in Dolce & Gabbana.  Why on earth would you do a white shirt with a strapless gown???? It’s doing you no favors and it looks quite messy.  It makes the fit of the dress look bulky in places.  If you thought that you would be cold, then a shrug or a wrap would have sufficed.  I’m sorry, but this look was busted!!!

Next up is Julie Bowen from “Modern Family” in Carolina Herrera.  Love the sculpted shoulder, but not in red velvet.  The gown fits well, but I would have gone for a solid color. I love color blocking, but in a different context.  The skirt is amazing, but not with the top.

Next up is Tina Fey, also in Carolina Herrera.  Most prints don’t really work on the red carpet.  She looks like an edgy emo girl celebrating her bat mitzvah or quinceanera in her first grown up dress.  I love Tina and the silhouette of this dress, but this doesn’t work for her at all.

This is Drew Barrymore in Monique Lhullier. She looks radiant, now that she is pregnant, but this dress makes her look like she’s celebrating her “Sweet 16”.  It’s way too cutesy for a mother to be. However, I love the shoes!!!!

Next up is Heidi Klum in Marchesa. Usually Heidi does pretty good on the red carpet and she’s always willing to take a chance on something edgy, but this dress looks like she’s about to go to bed.  I was snoring when I saw it.

Image

Next one up is Paula Patton in Stephanie Rolland.  I LOVE LOVE LOVE her, but this dress is one of those WTF moments.  Everyone has her on the worst dressed list, but I think this dress just has too many ideas.  If you’re gonna go for the drama detail (the huge ruffle), add a little more length, a slit, and ditch the sleeves.  It looks like way too much fabric in one look.  The fit is AMAZING, though!!!!! She has the confidence to rock anything she wears, but this look wasn’t a good one for her.  I guess her vision got “blurred” when she decided to do this look.

This is Katey Cuoco from “The Big Bang Theory” in Rani Zakhem Couture.  Love the silhouette of this gown, but she’s done a look like this before and it was much better than this.  The base color of this gown washes her out .  It looks like she’s been dragged through the mud and she shook most of it off.

Here is Laura Dern in Roberto Cavalli.  Now, Laura usually has some interesting choices for the red carpet, but this one makes her look like a “Real Housewife Of Orange County”.  Phenomenal actress, but this look I don’t like at all.

Image

Here is Zooey Deschanel in Oscar De La Renta.  I love Oscar as a designer, but for some reason this on her looks like a little girl celebrating her birthday.  Love that she is quirky and all the hipster boys love her, but she looks like an 8 year old girl.

ImageImage

Last but not least, this is Aubrey Plaza in Oscar De La Renta.  Love her and her sense of humor, but this dress looks like a hipster bridesmaid dress. I’m expecting to see five other girls in the same dress of different sizes acting like “WOO GIRLS” and doing shots. Love the shoes, though!!!!!

Well, this was my take on the Golden Globes. I’m sure there are many that don’t agree, so I’d love to hear about it.  I may do another blog post about the Golden Globes looks, because there were so many to go through and these were all of the ones that stood out for me.

Stay fashionable and sexy!!!!!

  1. Your Heidi Klum comment made me laugh, hahaaaaa!! I love me some Cate B style, the lady is pure sexy class! Laura D needs to sack both her stylist and hair stylist- not a fan of her lion’s mane!! Funnily enough, I really like Katey C’s gown but I know what you mean by the base colour washing her out. And yes, Amy Adam’s dress is just screaming for one POW accessory, she does look like she suffered from her stylist doing the jewellery rounds too late!!!
